Week 11 Posting - Pull Printing
Pull Printing
Securing IT environments is a necessity for business in the modern age. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been widely accepted as one of the best ways to ensure access is only being granted to authorized users. IT systems have also widely adopted MFA as it can be easily implemented across the entire infrastructure. Printers are no exception to this, and one of the more common ways to achieve it is through pull printing.
Pull printing stores a user's printing job on the network but requires that the user authenticates the print job at the device before receiving the documents. Often, businesses implement cards that provide this authentication. Additionally, many networks can implement this to allow users to print across a large selection of networked devices. This enables users to place a print job on the network, and access it from any connected printer (Systel, n.d).Overall this improves the security and availability for the entire IT environment.
