Week 10 Posting - Mobile Device Security

 Mobile Device Security

Most adults carry mobile devices and have integrated them into their daily lives. Like all technology, they serve an array of functions for users, and can hold sensitive and valuable information within them. Along with technological advancements, attacks have continued to grow in capability and number. Threat actors are constantly looking to steal information from unsecured devices. It is best to harden and lock these devices down as much as possible to prevent becoming a victim.

Multi-factor authentication can be implemented on the device, and many of the applications that are installed on the device. It is important to ensure that only trusted applications are downloaded. "Many apps from untrusted sources contain malware that once installed can steal information, install viruses, and cause harm to your phone’s contents." (totaldefense, n.d). This is very useful in preventing unauthorized users from accessing the device information. In addition to this, having a relatively complex passcode or biometric security feature enabled can prevent threats from physically accessing the device as well. Modern cellular devices and applications such as Google have precise tracking features that can be enabled to pin-point the location of the device. Lastly, antivirus should be installed on the device to actively scan and remove malware and viruses. These simple hardening tips can help prevent data loss and theft via mobile devices.
